Of course we all know what cat food, both dry and canned are used for, feeding cats.

Use cat food for other purposes

I have cats that love to watch the birds out of the window so I have discovered a way to avoid buying bird seed, and that is by using some cat food for feeding the birds.

I used to feed the birds but what a mess

Years ago I used to feed the birds. The commercial bird seed was always making a mess. It had mites living in it and would get moldy. Some would sprout, making a weedy grain garden that I would have to deal with.

Waste is a problem with bird seed

I did at that time , and still provide water for creatures outside. My problem with the bird seed was more of a maintenance issue, because the birds would often toss a lot of the bird seed out on the ground from the feeder. This and just the sheer volume of seed hulls would cause endless maintenance issues.

Birds eat a lot of different things, including pet food

Birds love dry and some canned pet food. I have always noted that they dig into the dog or cat bowl and grab a kibble or two.

No more Wasted Cat Food or bored cats

So now what I do is I gather up the left over cat food, that the cats left, both dry and canned and place it outside where the birds will eat it. This gives the cats a show to watch, feeds the hungry birds, and takes care of excess cat food. The birds are fed and the cats are occupied watching them. It is a win win situation.
